Posting this here because it’ll be on the aggregators within the hour and they’ll get it wrong.
The address above holds 3,911.4 BTC. It was spent from exactly once, in March 2015, so the public key has been sitting in the clear on every full node on earth for fifteen years.
At 03:58 UTC the whole balance moved in one transaction. The fee was sixty times the going rate for that block.
I am not making a claim about who signed it. But it moved.

That is the forty-first this week. Nineteen of the forty-one are in the last twenty-six hours.
Four people have asked me today whether these are owners or thefts. I have no idea. The same transaction can be generated by a frightened owner and a recovered key.

Anders, look at where it went.
The destination is P2TR. The x-only public key is written into the output script. So somebody moved 3,911 coins out of a fifteen-year-old exposed address and into a brand new exposed address. Whoever it is thinks that helped.
These people are idiots. They should be moving things to a fresh hash-locked output.

I put a patch on the list at 02:00. Three hours, nobody. So I am putting it here also since you people seem to care.
It is a consensus rule. Any output whose public key was visible on chain before block 1,108,000 becomes unspendable. It is roughly 4.1 million coins. Satoshi’s are in it. My own 2013 change addresses are in it.
This removes the target. I have not seen another proposal that does this.

Petra, your proposed patch takes four million coins from people who have not done anything, and you picked the block height yourself. That’s not a useful patch.
A large number of the addresses on your list belong to people who are dead. You are proposing to confiscate from the dead as a safety measure.
And the ones who are alive have to be told they can hold it and they can never move it. That’s not going to fly.

My brother’s twelve coins are in it, from when I set his wallet up in 2013 and told him it was better than a savings account. I told him what was happening on Sunday. He said okay, and then he called me back an hour later and asked if I was going to be all right.

Off topic, and I’d like to know if it happened to anyone else here.
I had a call at 01:40 my time from people who wouldn’t say who they work for. I don’t think they were a state. They knew which lists I read, including this closed one, which is nine people.
They offered to pay for the coordination of an emergency root rotation, at scale, starting now. Then they asked me which people on this list I would trust with a key.
I haven’t answered them.
Somebody on this list either talked to them or is one of them. Which one of you did this?

I moved mine at 06:15. All of it.
I’ve spent eleven years telling people not to panic-move coins and I did it in four minutes on a phone, in my kitchen, while I was standing up. My wife laughed at me and told me to do something useful and make her a sandwich.
